Mapping hydrodynamic compartments in large-scale bioreactors

Boehringer Ingelheim and a consortium of leading German technical universities utilized Simcenter M-Star to compare experimental and simulated trajectories of sensor particles in an industrial bioreactor to identify hydrodynamic compartments. Differences between LSP,exp and LSP,sim are mainly attributed to particle properties and simulation constraints. Results confirm that current LSPs can reliably capture meso- and macro-scale flow structures in large-scale reactors.
