Lecture series on protection topics with Prof. Dr. Lemmer

This webinar series is designed for professionals working in the field of protection, where a solid understanding of relay protection is crucial. It is tailored to participants who already possess a foundational knowledge of protection concepts.

On-demand webinar

Siemens Power Academy's "Basics of Protection" series now targets specific distribution and transmission topics.

What it's all about

This supplementary lecture series expands upon the foundational webinar series titled "Basics in Protection" hosted by Prof. Dr. Lemmer.
It focuses on specific protection subjects, such as current transformer saturation and sensitive earth-fault detection.
Looking ahead, we are in the process of preparing additional topics, including distance protection in distribution grids, teleprotection, and automatic reclosing, to further enhance your understanding and expertise in this critical field.
Learn from Prof. Dr. Lemmer, a protection specialist and, for many years head of the product lifecycle management of SIPROTEC. Additionally, you'll have the chance to connect with Gerd Einsiedler, an experienced trainer for protection systems in the Power Academy.

Benefits

  • Extend your knowledge and skills to plan, operate, and maintain relay protection systems for distribution and transmission networks.
  • Get a deeper understanding of current transformer saturation and sensitive-earth-fault detection.

Agenda

  • Session 1: Current transformer saturation - physical basics, steady state considerations
  • Session 2: Current transformer saturation - DC-components, C.T. dimensioning rules
  • Session 3: Sensitive earth fault detection - physical basics, system with isolated neutral, systems with earth fault compensation, systems with resistive neutral earthing
  • Session 4: Sensitive earth fault detection - detection concepts, sensitive directional earth fault detection with sinφ measurement, transient directional earth fault detection, intermittent earth fault detection
  • Session 5: Live Q&A with the protection experts Prof. Dr. Siegfried Lemmer and Gerd Einsiedler

Lead speakers

Prof. Dr. Siegfried Lemmer - Protection Expert and Lecturer
Siegfried Lemmer graduated and received his PhD at RWTH Aachen University. He joined Siemens AG in 1986. For many years, he was head of the product lifecycle management for protection, where he was deeply involved in the design of the SIPROTEC 4 & 5 relay families. Within a master's program to teach a university course in Power Engineering at Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg, he has been delivering lectures on Protection for nearly two decades. In 2016, he retired from SIEMENS but continued his university lectures.
