Bulletproof signals: Master net shielding for RF and analog designs using Calibre PERC

Simple graphic showing the net shielding concept in which a signal wire is shielded from electromagnetic effects by power or ground wires placed on either side of the signal wire.

Analog and RF circuit designs face significant challenges due to their sensitivity to various factors, including noise coupling between interconnects. One of the critical issues is the impact of proximity effects, such as crosstalk and electromagnetic interference, which can degrade the performance and reliability of these sensitive circuits.

To address this challenge, we describe the use of net shielding as an effective technique to mitigate the impact of noise on critical analog and RF signals. Surrounding sensitive signal nets with power or ground nets can create a shielding effect that isolates the signals from external interference. Calibre PERC's automated net shielding verification capabilities let designers quickly and reliably validate the effectiveness of their net shielding implementation, streamlining the design validation process and enhancing the overall reliability of analog and RF circuits.

What you’ll learn:

  • The challenges of noise coupling and proximity effects in analog and RF circuit designs, and how they can degrade the performance and reliability of these sensitive circuits.
