High-performance computing for dynamics and NVH analysis

Reading time: 25 minutes
Solver performance must expand to embrace and analyze a wide range of linear, nonlinear, and multidisciplinary problems as model scale and complexity increase and time-to-market decreases. Users are already utilizing the well-known Simcenter Nastran software whenever they require sequencing to analyze today's fast-paced, ever-changing dynamic response to noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH).

Siemens Digital Industries Software is constantly upgrading its finite element program to provide discipline-specific extensions, usability enhancements, and workflow improvements. Recent updates have focused on improving the performance of modal and dynamic solutions.

Enhanced functionality of the many modal and dynamic solution sequences for improved analysis

Performance improvements to the various modal and dynamic solution sequences:

  • support two types of parallelism: shared memory parallelism (SMP) and distributed memory parallelism (DMP)

  • provide direct or modal frequency response analysis

  • direct frequency response (SOL 108) performance with better DMP and MUMPS support

  • reduce elapsed time by 20 to 50 percent when new recursive domain normal modes analysis (RDMODES) approach is based on shared memory parallel (SMP) architecture

  • improve model frequency response with automatic fast frequency algorithms for low-rank and high-rank damping problems
