Accelerating safety standards compliance: automating creepage checking during PCB Layout

Designers are under pressure to:

• Produce systems that work reliably at full speed
• Pass EMC compliance tests without expensive shielding and filtering
• Meet all related safety standards
• Pass at first fabrication

In this paper, we analyze how a design for SI/PI/EMC/Safety compliance should not be a single event. Instead, automated electrical checking should be done early and often throughout the entire PCB development process to improve product quality and reduce the risk of failing applicable safety requirements.
