Resolving pain points to reduce time-to-market

CADIANS SYSTEM CORPORATION (CADIANS) is a leader in tool and die manufacturing processes in the automotive, electronics and semiconductor industries. Headquartered in Seoul, Korea and with three additional locations in the country, CADIANS delivers niche expertise on 3D computer-aided design (CAD) for mold layout and holds two patents for 3D CAD solutions in that market.

CADIANS has served tool and die manufacturers for over 25 years and specializes in NX™ software and Solid Edge® software solutions, which are part of the Siemens Xcelerator business platform of software, hardware and services. Its customized solutions help reduce design time and human errors while increasing product quality. In addition, its engineers provide customers with ongoing training using the Siemens Training Partner (STP) program.

CADIANS delivers customized solutions on top of NX CAD and NX computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) to help customers drive efficiency with design iterations, analytical inspection and automated processing. This capability helps decrease product development time, eliminate errors and bring products to market faster without sacrificing product quality.

Saving time and money with automation

A Japanese home appliance maker in Korea and longtime customer of CADIANS that produces gas-powered ovens, stoves, boilers and cooktops needed help managing its drawings, bill-of-materials (BOM) and time-consuming manual processes. To resolve these challenges, CADIANS engineers deployed Solid Edge based on product lifecycle management (PLM). This new integrated design and manufacturing management environment allowed the customer to realize a $1 million cost savings in product design and prototype development. And the ability to collaboratively share designs across departments with a shared platform using Teamcenter® software eliminated 50 hours of working time per year for each employee. This enabled employees to spend more time on value-added work.

Bringing outsourced manufacturing in-house

A Korean maker of solid carbide cutting tools with over 3,000 employees and $400 million in annual revenue experienced lags in new product development and efficiency throughout the manufacturing process. Outsourcing production added expenses and wasted time, delaying time-to-market while failing to deliver visibility into production processes. Working with CADIANS, this customer deployed a cutting edge 5-axis CAM solution based on NX CAM alongside NX for design, which they had been using since 2014. The new offering allowed the company to bring tool production in-house, helping to create a 5-axis postprocessing technique that drove 5 percent cost savings, an 8 percent improvement in product quality and a 10 percent increase in productivity.
