Evaluating the reproducibility of bioreactor mixing simulations

Hamburg University of Technology and Delft University of Technology used Simcenter M-Star to perform GPU-accelerated large-eddy simulations of tracer mixing in a 30-L stirred-tank bioreactor. The study compared Simcenter M-Star’s lattice Boltzmann approach with ANSYS Fluent and evaluated the reproducibility of repeated simulations. Simcenter M-Star produced mixing-time distributions with variability comparable to experimental measurements, demonstrating its ability to capture the statistical variability of turbulent mixing in a stirred vessel.
